Ever wondered what a Project Worker actually does all day? 🤔 Spoiler: it’s NOT just sitting at a desk! It’s about chatting with young people 💬, planning cool stuff 🎨, and helping make life a little less stressful (and a LOT more fun 🎉).

From answering messages to running activities, every day is different – and that’s what makes it exciting! Want to know what really goes on behind the scenes?
👀 Stick around, we asked Nicolle what a typical day is like for her!
"My name is Nicolle, I use she/her pronouns and my job is LGBT+ Project Worker."
☀️ Starting the Day

First things first… COFFEE! ☕ Once I’ve got my caffeine fix, I check my emails and get ready for the day ahead.
📅 What’s a Typical Day Like?
No two days are the same, but usually, I’m planning and running one-to-one sessions with young people. After that, there’s admin work and catching up with Matt about joint projects. It’s a mix of talking, planning, and making things happen.
💡 The Most Important Part
Working with young people in one-to-one sessions is the heart of my job. These conversations matter – they’re where real change happens.
❤️ What I Love Most
Providing a safe space for young people to talk openly about sexual orientation and gender identity. Watching them grow in confidence and flourish? That’s the best feeling ever.

⚠️ The Biggest Challenge
The rise in transphobia and homophobia in everyday life, politics, and social media. It’s tough seeing the impact this has on young people, but it makes our work even more important.
🔥 Staying Motivated
Easy – I’ve got amazing colleagues who lift me up every single day. Teamwork makes the dream work!
💬 Advice for Anyone Considering This Career
You won’t always have all the answers – and that’s okay. Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is just be a safe person and a listening ear.
🎯 Behind the Scenes
People might not realize how much planning goes into each session. It’s not just turning up and chatting – there’s a lot of thought behind making sure young people feel supported.
🌟 The Most Rewarding Part
After a really good one-to-one session that ends with positive feedback. That’s the moment you know you’ve made a difference.

🤔 Handling the Unexpected
If something comes up with a young person, I take a step back, think rationally, and plan the best way to approach it. Staying calm is key.
💪 Can’t Do My Job Without…
A positive work environment. My team is everything!
🍫 Fun Stuff
Go-to drink? COFFEE!!! ☕
Focus habit? I head to a quiet room when I need to zone in.
Three words to describe my day? Laughter, passionate, fun.
Favourite thing about where I work? The team – full of amazing personalities who always look out for each other.
🚀 Want to Get Involved?
We’ve got an exciting opportunity for YOU! 🙌If you’re passionate about supporting young people and want to make a difference, we currently have a Volunteer Project Worker position available.
